Sofia Garza-Barba

BIO-BIO-BIO

Dreamer and creator of magical worlds, Sofia Garza-Barba has been dedicated to projecting surreal images in the music video industry.

From a very young age, She knew that the only way to share a little piece of her magical world would be through music videos. Having studied film and video production at Brooks Institute of Photography (CA), Sofia was reborn and started seeing beyond what was visible to the naked eye. On her first year there, She was given the Lower Division Award for being one of the best students at school, along with four other people. Two years later, Sofia make her first music video for a Latin band called Kinky. The video entitled "Maria Jose", was her portfolio project before graduating december 2004.

After graduating with one of the best portfolio projects done at Brooks, Sofia wanted to keep on studying, so she decided to go to Madrid and do a mini masters in post production and media production at CEI school. As soon as she finished, with the help of her brilliant father Ramon Alberto Garza, she opened her own company called Espina Blanca Productions.

With influences like Michel Gondry, Tim Burton and Matthew Barney, Sofia started creating her own fun and magical style that started stamping her and her work.

She has had the opportunity to work with numerous bands such as Kinky, Porter, Aleks Syntek, Timbiriche, Natalia Lafourcade, Moderatto and others. Each video adapts itself to the music and the band, but never looses the directors style. Between a cardboard, fabric and stop-motion world, the work of Sofia will keep on projecting life coming out of a fairy tale or storybook .

As of now, Sofia finds herself dreaming and creating new stories to later throw into the screen. After winning two years in a row an award for Best Music video director in Pantalla de Cristal film festival, Sofia was inspired to create diverse projects this year which will include a short film.

Aside from music video making, She is director and editor of an online experience called Trece:Veinte. This online experience is part of award winning Indigo Brainmedia.
Trece:Veinte focuses on the 7 arts which makes Sofia constantly happy. There is no doubt that whatever touches Sofia's hands will end up with a magical twist.
